In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a designer. I don’t really like to label myself but I love designing, so why not. I have always been interested in visual communication, and trying to understand how seeing something can affect your behaviour and emotions. That’s what really interests me, knowing that because I chose a specific colour or shape, someone viewing it made a choice based on what they saw.

I have the ability to know what looks good for a selected audience. It’s almost instinctual, but based on a little research I can estimate what an average customer from a target demographic would think of a brand based on its design. This doesn’t just mean how the logo looks or what colours have been used, but the finer detail like how they write to customers, how they present themselves in person or on the web, in my opinion it all comes down to being perceived correctly. Businesses are starting to realise how important this is and we are starting to see massive changes to brands and how they want to be perceived, great stuff for designers like me.

Websites have come a long way from the endless pages of black text on a white background, with a couple of images, they used to be. These days you can’t afford to let your website get old, and they get old very quickly. Web users are becoming very savvy and businesses trying to take advantage of this mass market have to be even savvier. The web is no longer just a vast database of information, it’s a tool to socialise, a tool to get things cheaper and faster, 24/7. People don’t view the web, they use it, it’s an exciting time for branding and web design with trends moving fast and markets being dominated based on branding and web design.
